I always think back to the last time I got a $50 gel mani. The service was solid, the shape was on point, and I walked out feeling like a new person. I tipped $10 in cash right at 20% because that’s the sweet spot most salons expect in the U.S., especially when the tech is meticulous. If it had been just a quick, simple polish change, I would’ve done closer to $7–$8 (15%).
That said, I adjust for the reality of the appointment. If they squeeze me in last-minute, fix a broken nail without charging, or do detailed nail art, I’ll bump it to $12–$15. If something’s off rushed service or messy cuticles, I drop it closer to $5–$7, but still tip. Cash is usually appreciated, and yes, I tip even if the owner does my nails unless they explicitly refuse.
